First up was Vacation Bible School camp. This was their second year attending VBS, and it was their first successful year (last year we had a few issues with listening, buttons and a fight that is going down in the history books). This year the boys had an amazing experience, a large part thanks to a special family who volunteered to be their pre-k teachers. They loved every minute of learning about God AND all the love and attention they received from their teachers! My favorite part of their participation in VBS is the beautiful music I get to listen to while in the car. All three love to sing the songs they learned while at VBS and ask to listen to their Sky CD often. What's more precious than little ones singing about God?!?
A few pictures taken on the final day of VBS.
Next up was Skyhawks Sport's Camp sponsored through our park district. The boys loved going every morning, despite the near 100 degree days. During the week they played lots of soccer, basketball and t-ball.
The boys had to run through the flags at the start and end of each session, how fun!
The final camp of the summer was Camp Bear Cub- Olympic Week, sponsored through the YMCA. This was a more traditional camp, with lots of songs and games played through the week. This camp was awesome and got the boys totally and completely excited about the 2012 London Olympics that started on the final day of camp.
Camp Bear Cub had a nice program on its final day, and all three enjoyed showing off what they learned.
Before signing Liam, Aidan & Connor up for all these camps I made sure they were interested. Unfortunately there was a little (okay BIG) misunderstanding by the term "camp". All three of my little guys expected to have a tent, roast some marshmallow, and sleep outside. Once we cleared it up, Craig told the boys that in addition to all their 'camps', our whole family would go camping (with the tents, etc) at the end of the summer.
Which brings me to our final camp...
With a crazy busy late summer/ early fall calendar, we decided to combine our camping weekend with a little family reunion at the V's lake house in MI. I am so glad that we decided to do this, since we not only cleared up a weekend, but we were able to get some extra materials to make the camping adventure a success (with wet supplies and cold weather, the tarp and extra blankets literally saved our camping adventure!!!).
Our camping adventure definitely had some high highs (excited boys who slept like babies and an amazing breakfast that was out of this world were at the top) and some low lows (a wet interior, cold temperatures and bugs were at the very bottom)!!!
On so many levels I am sorry to know that summer is just about over, but I have to admit that I'm glad that camping is crossed off the list :-).
