Tradition 1...
The first was to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade. Since neither Craig or I ever really watched it growing up, I didn't think it would be something we would do. But after reading some Thanksgiving books before the holiday, the boys were all about the parade, so we gave it a try. The boys ended up having a blast with it, and so did I. My favorite parts were when Liam, Aidan & Connor tried to copy the performers dance moves. Watching them imitate Spiderman was impressive, but the most entertaining was their rendition of the Rockettes.... Hilarious! Obviously the boys enjoyed the end the most, when Santa made his grand entrance. What a fun way to kick off the holiday season. We'll definitely be tuning in again next year!
Tradition 2...
In the afternoon we were off to Grandma Diane and Grandpa Mike's house for our Thanksgiving celebration and delicious meal, with a new twist. My parents thought it was time to start an annual Turkey Bowl with two new generations. Even though I'm sure my dad was missing his mom (who used to always play football with us on Thanksgiving), I'm sure her substitute of 2 son-in-laws and 7 grandsons made it special for him. Plus I know Grandma Gracie was smiling down on us as we played.
Needless to say, the football game was fun for all, except Connor who got bopped in the nose with the football during the first play of the game. No worries, though, as he returned to the game mid-way through and also remembered to pray for himself and his injury during round 2 of prayers that night, after literally praying for every family and friend:-).

| Pass the Aces actually got more competitive than the football game. For some reason I don't think that will always be the case. |
Tradition 3...
Since Craig has to work on Friday, I am forced to do my Black Friday shopping with the boys. Last year we hit the mall, which was crazy! This year I learned my lesson and just went to Kohl's for their early bird sales. Oh did we have so much fun and were very productive as well! In the hour and a half we were in the store, we had to have received over 20 compliments on my little elves behavior! They really were good, as they helped me find the perfect presents for many on our list. Funny story... Towards the end of our time in Kohl's I said to the boys, "Oh, we haven't found a present for Grandpa Ron yet. Let's look to see if we can find something for him over here (in the men's department). Without missing a beat, Connor declares; "Clothes are NOT presents. Let's keep looking Mommy!".
Tradition 4...
Finally, like many people, we really enjoy putting up the Christmas decorations the weekend after Thanksgiving. Up until this year, though, it was mainly Craig and I doing it all, usually after the boys went to sleep (we always made a date of it). This year, however, the boys put on their elf hats and worked the entire evening.
| After working on it for a few minutes one of my little elves says; "Look... A whole football team on one (branch)." Great! |
Needless to say, if you come to our house in the next month or so and notice a different decorating technique, you'll know why :-).
A perfect start to a sure-to-be extra special Christmas season!!!
