Our First of Many Trips to Six Flags Great America...

Labor Day 2010 at Six Flags Great America
I'm hoping that we started a new tradition, going to Six Flags Great America on Labor Day. There is honestly no way the trip could have gone smoother. We flew up to Gurnee (and back), the boys were FREE, Craig and I took advantage of the "adults pay children's price", the weather was perfect, and we practically had the whole park to ourselves. A perfect excursion, one that I will be looking forward to every year!

We started our adventure on the upper deck of Columbi Carousel. Nice and tame...

And jumped to 'extreme' on the very next ride. After spinning like crazy for what seemed to be 15 minutes (but was probably more like 3), Connor held our hands tightly, even after the ride stopped. It took us all a few minutes to get our barrings after that one!

Hurricane Harbor was a blast! The boys continue to surprise me with their fearless attitudes. They walked across narrow bridges over 25 feet above ground/ pool, climbed netting that was even difficult for me, and countlessly went down the only slide their height allowed, even after having a landing mishap. One thing about my boys, they always get right back on the horse (or slide, or bridge, or stair, or anything that throws them down!)

I guess having all three watch the ride before going on was a mistake, Connor dropped out at the last second, and Aidan screamed (in not a good way) the entire ride. Our only 'bad' experience of the day.

The Big Red Cars seemed to be the boys favorite ride, which was a good thing since they asked about the "cars" after every previous ride.

Where's Connor??? Poor guy couldn't go on because he wasn't 36" (which he was NOT happy about!). The other two had a blast, and even figured out how to spin their teacup. Side note: (This morning when talking to the boys about all the fun things we did yesterday, Connor told me several times in his very sad voice "Liam teacup, Aidan teacup, Connor NO teacup", all while shaking his head). After going on 20+ rides in 7 hours, I would have thought he would have forgotten all about the darn teacups... not my Connor!
The most challenging part of the day: Sharing my most favorite dessert of all time...Great America's Funnel Cake Sundae. Yum, and only 1/4 the calories!!!

More pictures of the boys on their rides. And surprisingly, I didn't even capture them on all the attractions. Honestly, with all SFGA has to offer toddlers, I can't believe they are free!

My favorite, Logger's Run. All three handled the big drop (and getting wet) quite well. Nobody, however, was asking to go on again, like they did on every other ride :-).
Aidan enjoying his FREE food...

Not sure what surprised me more: Adult buffet- $3.00 OR toddler buffet- free. Gotta love both, especially at Six Flags!

These two pictures are hilarious to me, because they actually capture the expressions of each boy on just about every ride they went on. Aidan smiled the entire time, Connor looked petrified, and Liam screamed, loudly!

We went up, up and away on our last ride. We didn't realize the park closed as early as it did, and I think the only person who was happy to have an excuse to head back to the van was Daddy. And what were Connor's last words while walking out of SFGA... "One more ride, one more ride..."
Even though Connor looked the most apprehensive while on the rides, he had a blast and was giddy the whole way home, talking nonstop about all the fun things he did. The other two were a little more chilled, but still very happy and too excited to sleep.

Next stop while the boys are still 2 (aka FREE)...

Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom!

Grandma Diane and Grandpa Mike... We're ready, are you???

It looks like so much fun!! FYI - we have friends who went to Disney a few years ago and their daughter was just short of some height requirement. They put napkins in her shoes when they got to the front of the line and she got on just fine!!

Who knew there was so much for little ones there! We'll have to plan a trip for spring. I love the story about Connor remembering he was too little for the teacups - so sweet.
Can't wait to hear how Disney goes. We'll let you do it first and learn all the tips and tricks - like napkins in the shoes - awesome :)
